Adoption
Plan an adoption – One of your unplanned pregnancy options
If you decide to make an adoption plan for your child, we will work on your behalf to make this happen.
Your Amara counselor can:
- Help you understand the different ways that birth and adoptive parents experience adoption
- Inform you of the legal process and timeline of adoption
- Help you consider what traits you might seek in an adoptive family and show you profiles of adoptive families who may be a good match for you and your child
- Prepare you for a face-to-face meeting with the family of your choice, and support you during this meeting
- Help you determine what kind of ongoing contact you would like to have with your child and the adoptive parents once the adoption is final (separate contact agreements can be created for both birth mothers and birth fathers)
- Ensure at all times, both before and after the birth of your child, that you understand your rights
- Be readily available throughout this process to answer your questions and provide emotional support
- Help you, at your request, to communicate your situation and choice to others whose support is important to you – your partner or perhaps a sibling, a parent, or a friend

About the adoptive families with whom we work
Our adoptive families all go through a comprehensive screening and preparation process before they are approved for consideration by birth parents. We have been working with birth and adoptive families for 90 years.
